Creating the Paypal Donation Button
Creating your Paypal Donation button is a multi-step process, so be patient and go through all of the steps provided. Log into your Paypal account and click the "Merchant Services" tab at the top (International users, your tab may be called "Merchant Tools"). You will then see the following screen.
Scroll down about 1/2 way until you see this (I added the arrow myself, just look for the "Donations" link on the right):
Below is the start of the page you will see after clicking "Donations"
The first and second boxes above are optional; they make it easier to track where you donation came from (page or site) if you have more than one and you need to keep them separate.
If you do choose to name your donation, keep in mind this information will appear on the Paypal Payment Page and Receipt your visitor gets ... so make sure it makes sense to them too.
The Donation Amount box should only be used if you want to set the amount of the donation yourself, in most cases you should leave this blank.
Select your currency choice, and then the buyer's currency if you want (I recommend you leave the buyer's currency alone and let them choose for themselves.
Here is the 2nd part of the same page:
Click the "choose a different button" so you can see the options available for buttons (see next image). Select the button choice you want, then complete the Security Settings.
If you want to use your own button image, create it, upload to the Graphic Library, then get the url to the button and paste it into the box above.
To get the correct url to your image, click on the image within the Graphics Library, choose preview from the list that appears, then right click on the image and choose "copy image location" ... or (depending on the browser you are using) right click the image and choose "properties" and copy the url from the box that appears.
These are your choices from the Paypal default buttons:
I prefer the Visa/MC one as that way your visitors won't feel they "have to have" a Paypal account and this can ease the way to getting that donation!
Now go to "Add More Options" to set your urls for the "Payment Successful and "Cancel" pages as well as to see if there is anything there you want to include before you create your button.
